Sixteen-year-old Starr lives in two worlds: the poor neighbourhood where she was born and raised and her posh high school in the suburbs. The uneasy balance between them is shattered when Starr is the only witness to the fatal shooting of her unarmed best friend, Khalil, by a police officer. Now what Starr says could destroy her community. It could also get her killed.
Inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, this is a powerful and gripping YA novel about one girl's struggle for justice.

Wow. I don’t even know where to begin with The Hate U Give. If I just said it was amazing and you all need to read it, would that suffice? No I didn’t think so. Here it goes. There has been a lot of hype  about this book and for once it is a book totally worth it.

Over a week after I finished this book and it is still haunting me. Words to describe the brilliance of this book do not exist, but I will do my best.

This is an important story for #BlackLivesMatter showing a supportive and community and family. Starr’s family is brilliant, lovable and supportive doing the best they can to raise their kids. And it was great to see that parents and children had mutual respect for one another. It was just so refreshing to see.

One thing I really did not like was the relationship between Chris and Starr. I just couldn’t see it. They had too many issues. And appeared to have no trust. I felt that their relationship was shoehorned into the book because Chris is white and Starr black. I felt that it was just there for convention.

On so many levels The Hate U Give has an important message, and there is a lot to learn in a few pages. This is a book that will stay with you long after you read it.

This writing is beautiful, and so many sentences are perfection. This is a classic in the making so I suggest you read it!!
