Welcome to my  feature, Pastime Pleasures, posted every other Friday. Today is the turn of Can You Keep a Secret by Sophie Kinsella.

Here I will look at books that have given me great pleasure in the past. These are books I can read over and over again. The only rule is that the book must have been published five or more years ago.

Pastime Pleasures #25- Can You Keep a Secret by Sophie Kinsella

This is a hilarious and witty read that will leave you in stitches! Perhaps best to not read it on public transport as you will laugh out loud. It is extremely difficult to maintain a straight face when reading this book. I think I went round with a permanent grin on my face, occasionally chuckling to myself, quite loudly….

There is so much humour, romance, drama, decision-making and so may secrets crammed into this book, that it is extremely hard to find a favourite part. There are also some extremely funny and outrageous characters – Jemima(!) an extremely loveable but clueless heroine, a sexy sounding love interest and some important life lessons to be learnt.

This for me is the best line in Can You Keep A Secret and sums up the humour quite nicely:

“Emma, I’m sorry, I can’t help you. This is a disaster. You’re completely vulnerable. It’s like going into battle in a nightie.”
