Monthly Round-up! November 2016

Monthly Round-up, linking everything that has happened in the last month, posted on the last day of said month. This Round-up November 2016. Currently reading:   Reviews:   Through the Letterbox:   Challenges: A new year and a new challenge. This year I am participating in the movie musical challenge hosted by Bookish Whimsy.  This month I reviewed  an incredible 4 musicals – including the divine Meet Me In St. Louis, the charismatic Easter Parade, the moving Oklahoma! and finally Kiss Me Kate. As per usual I’m participating in the Goodreads Challenge. I’ve pledged to read 100 books! And so far have managed to read 75 books. I’m 6 behind which is terrible and I’m not sure how I will recover. But this is a small improvement on last month so keep your fingers crossed for me that I can keep going! So what do you think of my round-up November 2016? What have you read this month? Book vs. Film: How I Live Now

Book vs. Film: How I Live Now

Today’s post for Book vs Film  focuses on How I Live Now. On this occasion I will briefly review both film and book before giving my opinion on which is better. Read and let me know if I am correct in my assessment.   Be warned! Spoilers may occur! The Book: I adore this book. When I first read it in 2004 I wasn’t exactly enamored with the book.  But over the years this book has grown on me to become a firm classic of my childhood reading. The major theme of the book is survival-ship and how love can conquer all, war, separation and expectations. And I thought it showed the confusion of war really well. It’s not clear who the enemy is or what their motive is. I liked that the book is told from Daisy’s perspective, what she knows we know everything else is lost to us. So we do only get half the picture but that is the only picture that matters here. The writing is puzzling and limited, but this is necessary due to what is going on. Despite […]

Book vs. Film – The Maze Runner

Today’s post for Book vs Film focuses on The Maze Runner. On this occasion I will briefly review both film and book before giving my opinion on which is better. Read and let me know if I am correct in my assessment. Be warned! Spoilers may occur! The Book: This is a fabulous book. And one that is really easy to get into and the world. Even though it has its own slang! The book felt unique and compelling to read as we found out more about the Maze and the secrets that lie beyond. And despite being set in a dystopia world, this book manages to focus more on the survival skills required in the Maze rather than how different the world is compared to before. For example the glade has groups of people doing different tasks so that the group can survive. In all could have been an each for his own kind of affair… All the questions that you will have as you read the book are the same as all the characters. They enter the Maze with […]
