Through the Letterbox: FairyLoot Steampunk Rebellion Unboxing

Posted November 8, 2016 by Charlotte in Through the Letterbox / 0 Comments

Welcome to Through the Letterbox and it is time for Round two! with my second subscription box from Fairy Loot, this months theme, Steampunk Rebellion.  This was so different from the first box it is easy to see how this appeals to everyone.  Fairy Loot is a monthly subscription ya book box based in the UK.

The Box:

In each box you can expect:

  • One recently published Young Adult book,
  • 4-6 goodies often related to the book,
  • promotional items such as posters, bookmarks and a signed bookplate (whenever possible),
  •  a unique hashtag that links you up with one other person receiving a box.

The box is £26 plus shipping at £3.95 (if UK based) bringing it to a grand total of £29.95. Again I wish that the shipping is including in the price because it is like a hidden extra.

When I heard that the September theme was Steampunk Rebellion, perfect for fans of The Infernal Devices (are you team Jem or team Will?), Divergent and general steampunk awesomeness. Having never read these series (I bow my head in shame) I knew this box would be a real surprise for me and I was quite looking forward to seeing what was in store!

The Unboxing:

Upon opening I was greeted by lots of purple bits of twirly paper and I could see some of the goodies peeping out. So I did what comes naturally and dived straight in.

All the items were exclusivity designed for the box. Giving it a great unique feel as each item was unveiled.

The book was a gorgeous hardbackMetaltown by Kristen Simmons – even though this is a steampunk theme it looks pretty good and I think I would have picked it up in the shop. Also included was a signed bookplate (which as soon as the below photo was take was stuck in my book) a letter from the author  and a Press Back Badge.

The Items:

The Clockwork Ring by Cogs and Curiosities – this is a cool idea but I really don’t like it – this ring is definity not for me.

Butterfly Necklace from Fairyloot, I love long necklaces and this design is brill. Not sure when or where I’ll wear this but I will keep it in mind.

Washi Tape with a steampunk design from Fairyloot. I have no idea what Washi Tape is or what to do with it. The Clockwork design is so detailed and again fits the theme, but if anyone knows how to use it please let me know!

Elias Lip Balm by Behind the Pages which has a cinnamon spicy scent perfect for the winter months and a hint of glitter to add a bit of sparkle to the day.

Magnetic Bookmark – Will by Happy Hello Co I’ve no idea who this character is but it is so darn cute that I will definitely be using this!

The Clockwork Angel Quote Tea-towel by Read at Midnight I love the quote on this tea towel – see below!

Dauntless Candle by –Meraki Candles I was so lucky and got a Dauntless candle. And it smells divine even without lighting this I could smell it.

There is a lot packed into this box and I loved all the little extra bits. Like the Fairyscoop Bookletwith has a little interview with the author and a pop quiz. And my unique fairyloot code to connect with my reading buddy. Who for the second time running I am still trying to find! Please can someone admit to being my reading buddy!

My favourite items were the Dauntless Candle, the lip balm and the magnetic bookmark. Each item was some that were beautiful and things I would use again and again.

While I didn’t love everything in the box (the ring unfortunately has made its made to a charity shop) there was a variety of items which were well thought out and really suited to the theme – Steampunk Rebellion.

Let me know if you’ve received this Steampunk Rebellion FairyLoot Box, I’d love to know your thoughts, what was your favourite item? Did anyone receive a different candle / bookmark?
