Posted November 21, 2016 by Charlotte in Through the Letterbox / 2 Comments

Welcome to Through the Letterbox. Today’s theme is Dark Retelling this is the second ever subscription box from My Bookish Crate. (having received the gorgeous Harry Potter Pride box) and is one of my favourite to have received from through the post. My Bookish Crate is a monthly subscription book box based in the UK.

The Box:

In each box you can expect:

  • a recently published Young Adult book
  • and 4-5 bookish goodies related to the box’s theme

The box is £28 plus shipping at £3 (if UK based) bringing it to a grand total of £31. The price for the box isn’t unreasonable although I do dislike paying for delivery (it should be included in the price!!). With everything you get though the box is well worth the price.

The October theme was Dark Retelling and as Halloween was around the corner it was a perfect box to receive.

The Unboxing:

Upon opening the box I was greeted by this sight. I could see a couple of things peeking out ready to be opened.

I loved the fact that the book was wrapped up adding so much more to the mystery of what the book was. It turned out to be Vassa in the Night by Sarah PorterWhich I was a little disappointing about because I had received it in a fairyloot box a month prior. But at least I’ve been recommended it twice in a way so is something I definitely need to read soon. Included with the book was a signed book plate and a letter from the authorAlso if you love retellings then this book is perfect for you.

The Items:

A Miss Peregrins Funko from Funko which is based on the book Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs, which has been made into a film by Tim Burton starring Eva Green and Samuel L Jackson. I’ve yet to read this book but this funko looks gorgeous and makes me want to see and read this so much more.

Jack and Sally Bookmarks from The Nightmare Before Christmas by Nerdy Grl Designs – seeing as this was a Halloween box, it would not be complete without these lovely duo.

A Darkling Kiss lip balm by Geeky Clean – this is peppermint flavour and is tinged black. It’s based on the Grisha series. When you but this on it is clear with a hint of black which I really like.

Two amazing prints by taratjah showing of Feyre and Rysand and the High Lord of the Night Court’s Tattoos from Sarah J. Maas’s A Court of Thorns and Roses series.

Throne of Glass Pencils from bloomsburypublishing which are gorgeous and will be perfect for colouring in the Throne of Glass colouring book.

Everything in the parcel was gorgeous and well thought out. My favourite would have to be the the magnetic bookmarks. I’ve really fallen in love with them and cannot wait to use.

But I loved everything in this box and highly recommend that any bookworm checks out My Bookish Crate. It is certainly a subscription box I will be keeping my eye on.

Let me know if you’ve received this Dark Retelling My Bookish Crate. I’d love to know your thoughts, what was your favourite item?
