Pastime Pleasures #34 Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson

Welcome to my feature, Pastime Pleasures all about books I have loved and adored and were published over five years.  Today is the turn of  Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson. Steelheart was the first book that I ever read by Brandon Sanderson and was one of the first books that I reviewed on this blog. It is slightly crazy to think that the first time I read this book was over six years ago. But like any good book the story sticks with you and you cannot wait for that moment when you forget and can have the pleasure of reading again. This is one book that I have asked, begged friends and family to read because it is so good. Luckily a few of them have listened. And perhaps more importantly they agree with me! Throughout we follow David as he seeks to become a Reckoner and bring the downfall of Steelheart. A Epic who killed his father and whose weakness David only seems to know.  I’d also forgotten how hilariously awful David’s metaphors are. So bad that they have […]

I received this book for free from Netgalley, Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Calamity by Brandon Sanderson Series: Reckoners #3 Published by Gollancz on February 18, 2016 Genres: Fantasy, Fiction, Science Fiction, Young Adult Pages: 432 Format: E-Arc, Hardback Source: Netgalley, Publisher Buy on Amazon Goodreads From the bestselling author of the Mistborn series and Words of Radiance comes Calamity, the final book in the New York Times bestselling Reckoners series. Embrace your epic destiny and there’s no turning back. Is there? After that cliffhanger of Firefight, and having a year to wait for Calamity, it was a bit of a struggle. But we made it through and now have the joy of reading another fabulous book. Because like the rest of Brandon Sanderson’s books I have read this is fabulous. It’s the type of book that is easy to imagine, one with a cinematic style and grace. But I have to admit that this is a book that I am struggling to review, mainly because I’m […]

Review: Firefight by Brandon Sanderson

I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Firefight by Brandon Sanderson Series: Reckoners #2 Published by Gollancz on January 6, 2015 Genres: Fantasy, Fiction, Science Fiction, Young Adult Pages: 432 Format: Hardback Source: Publisher Buy on Amazon Goodreads Babylon Restored, formerly Manhattan, may give David answers. Ruled by the mysterious High Epic, Regalia, David is sure Babylon Restored will lead him to what he needs to find. And while entering another city oppressed by a High Epic despot is a gamble, David’s willing to risk it. Because killing Steelheart left a hole in David’s heart. A hole where his thirst for vengeance once lived. Somehow, he filled that hole with another Epic—Firefight. And he’s willing to go on a quest darker, and more dangerous even, than the fight against Steelheart to find her, and to get his answers. Yay! David is back in Firefight, with his amazing metaphors and, actually I can’t think of anything else because the mere […]
