Monthly Round-Up! July 2020

Monthly Round-up, linking everything that has happened in the last month, posted on the last day of said month. This Round-up July 2020. This month, I surpassed my reading challenge on Goodreads. So now I am debating whether to increase it or not?    I think the reason for completing the challenge so early is simply because I have more time on my hands. I also started to cycle a little bit more and for my birthday my family when on a birthday cycle. Such fun! We ended up on a twenty mile ride and I achieved some of my personal bests. Including going 17 miles per hour up hill. However my legs were jelly after that. Currently reading:   Reviews:   Random Thoughts:   Book vs. Film:   Pastime Pleasures:   Challenges: As per usual I’m participating in the Goodreads Challenge. I’ve surpassed this, should I increase my challenge or see how many more books I can read.   So what do you think of my round-up July 2020? What have you read this month? Let me know in […]

Book vs Film: The Hate You Give

Today’s post for Book vs Film  focuses on The Hate You Give. On this occasion I will briefly review both film and book before giving my opinion on which is better. Read and let me know if I am correct in my assessment.   Be warned! Spoilers may occur!   The Book: I remember being blown away the first time I read The Hate You Give. The writing was powerful and moving. I remember being concerned at the time, because there was a lot of hype for the book. Was it just one of those books that I would read and be disappointed by. Underwhelmed by the story. That was not the case then and definitely not the case on my reread of the book. For me the story was all the more powerful and compelling. I felt like I understood Starr more. She was more relatable, and her difference in personality at home and school were more understandable. Although I still felt on this reread that her relationship with Chris was still the weakest part of the book. The […]

Review: 10 Things I Hate About Pinky by Sandhya Menon

I received this book for free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.10 Things I Hate About Pinky by Sandhya Menon Published by Hodder Paperbacks on July 21, 2020 Genres: Contemporary, Fiction, Romance, Young Adult Pages: 368 Format: E-Arc Source: Netgalley Buy on Amazon Goodreads The follow-up to When Dimple Met Rishi and There’s Something about Sweetie follows Pinky and Samir as they pretend to date—with disastrous and hilarious results. Pinky Kumar wears the social justice warrior badge with pride. From raccoon hospitals to persecuted rock stars, no cause is too esoteric for her to champion. But a teeny-tiny part of her also really enjoys making her conservative, buttoned-up corporate lawyer parents cringe. Samir Jha might have a few . . . quirks remaining from the time he had to take care of his sick mother, like the endless lists he makes in his planner and the way he schedules every minute of every day, but those are good things. They make life predictable […]
