Blog Tour: Q&A with Judy Leigh, author of A Grand Old Time

Today, I’m super excited to welcome Judy Leigh, author of A Grand Old Time to the blog with a Q&A to celebrate the release of A Grand Old Time. You are in a bookstore and someone has picked up your book – how are you going to persuade them to buy it?  I’d say ‘It will make you smile.’ (I’d think it will probably make you laugh out loud, and maybe cry too.)   Do you have a favourite moment in the book? When Evie gets up to sing Danny Boy In the pub with Billy the Banjo.  And the sad bit later on always makes me well up.    Did you do any research / or did anything influence you?  I research all the time. I travelled Evie’s journey to all the places she visits, talked to lots of people, I ask people to read parts of the book for feedback: I asked friends in Liverpool to read the section set there to check it was authentic to them.  And I use the internet all the time. Research is […]

Review: Circe by Madeline Miller

Circe by Madeline Miller Published by Bloomsbury Publishing UK on April 19, 2018 Genres: Fantasy, Fiction, Historical, Retelling Pages: 352 Format: E-Arc Source: Netgalley Buy on Amazon Goodreads In the house of Helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the Titans, a daughter is born. But Circe has neither the look nor the voice of divinity, and is scorned and rejected by her kin. Increasingly isolated, she turns to mortals for companionship, leading her to discover a power forbidden to the gods: witchcraft. When love drives Circe to cast a dark spell, wrathful Zeus banishes her to the remote island of Aiaia. There she learns to harness her occult craft, drawing strength from nature. But she will not always be alone; many are destined to pass through Circe’s place of exile, entwining their fates with hers. The messenger god, Hermes. The craftsman, Daedalus. A ship bearing a golden fleece. And wily Odysseus, on his epic voyage home. There is danger for a solitary woman in this world, and Circe’s independence draws the wrath of men and gods alike. To […]

Blog Tour / Guest Post: ‘The inspiration of The Corineus Theatre’ by Tracy Corbett, author of Summer Theatre By The Sea

Today on the blog I’m so happy to welcome Tracy Corbett , author of Summer Theatre by the Sea with a guest post all about her inspiration behind the Corineus Theatre. Don’t forget to check out all the other awesome stops on the tour. Guest Post: It’s probably no surprise that The Corineus Theatre in The Summer Theatre by the Sea is based on The Minack in Penzance. What a stunning venue. The stage is cut into the rock face, looking almost as if its suspended in thin air. With the waves crashing behind and the wind swirling around the stone walls, it’s quite a spectacle. I hadn’t realised until visiting the theatre to watch a production of Amadeus that the cast are all amateurs. Each summer season various amateur groups from around the country travel down to Cornwall to put on a show. The quality of the shows are brilliant, and it’s quite an honour to be chosen to perform there. Naturally, as someone who loves amateur dramatics, I was captivated, my creative juices began to flow and the […]
