For this Movie Musical Challenge I’ve made a list of 15 musicals that I haven’t yet seen and probably ought to have. The challenge is throughout the year and once watched I’ll put my thoughts up on the blog. Today is the turn of Kiss Me Kate.
So the eight movie for the challenge is Kiss Me Kate (1953), starring Kathryn Grayson and Howard Keel.
I felt a bit funny about the romance between Fred and Lilli because I felt that they hadn’t worked through their issues but perhaps it helps that it was pretty obvious that Fred was still in love with Lilli and the reason for their divorce was something trivial.
To be honest I’m not sure that I had a favourite song – Too Darn Hot, Brush Up Your Shakespeare and I Hate Men are probably the best but there was nothing that stood with me.
The standout for me was Ann Miller and her dancing. She was the highlight of the film and made me just want to get up and start tap dancing.
This is probably my least favourite musical that I have watched so far and to be honest I didn’t really feel anything for Lilli and Fred or for the concept of the film.
