Pastime Pleasures #32 – Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J K Rowling

Welcome to my feature, Pastime Pleasures all about books I have loved and adored and were published over five years.  Today is the turn of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J K Rowling. When I first read this book I wasn’t a huge fan. Harry Potter was so much better than this! But over the years as my love for all things Harry Potter have grown so have my feeling for this little book. Because after this book the Harry Potter books double in size.  Also can I mention Crookshanks?! He is like a secret ninja secret spy agent cat. He knows what is happening and doesn’t get the credit he deserves. While Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was never my favourite in terms of magic and adventure. It is still a great book and essential to the series. Basically our wizarding world is expanded. We get to know about an all magical wizard village, sweets with really cool names and a big history lesson. And then there is the time-turner. It would literally give me all the time in the world to go […]

Pastime Pleasures #17 – Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J K Rowling

Welcome to my  feature, Pastime Pleasures, posted every other Friday. Today is the turn of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J K Rowling. Here I will look at books that have given me great pleasure in the past. These are books I can read over and over again. The only rule is that the book must have been published five or more years ago. The second of the series starts of with a flying bang… literally. The Chamber of Secrets is another brilliant installment of the Harry Potter Series. Perhaps Chamber of Secrets is so good because we have got to know the characters, we know who our favourites are, who we dislike, and it is easier to imagine Harry’s surroundings. Harry clearly has a better understanding of his abilities and who is enemies are. And this book focuses on improving said abilites and growing as a character, there is more focus on the mystery at hand rather than the future. Perhaps it is the re-reading that has made me see how good J. K. Rowling is at […]

Pastime Pleasures #13 – Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone by J K Rowling

Welcome to my  feature, Pastime Pleasures, posted every other Friday. Today is the turn of Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone by J K Rowling. Here I will look at books that have given me great pleasure in the past. These are books I can read over and over again. The only rule is that the book must have been published five or more years ago.   Harry Potter is amazing. What else is there to say? There’s magic, ghosts, strange lessons, weird sweets and owls deliver their mail. I’m still patiently waiting for my letter to Hogwarts. After all I could be a late developer, right? Each of the three main characters are relatable. We all have a bit of Hermione, Ron and Harry in us. Hermione starts off as a prim and proper, know-it-all scholar but by the end she is the most loyal of friends. Ron may have little money and spates of jealousy but his abundance of loving family and loyalty more than make up for it. Harry start off as a nobody, becoming a celebrity overnight […]
