Pastime Pleasures #34 Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson

Welcome to my feature, Pastime Pleasures all about books I have loved and adored and were published over five years.  Today is the turn of  Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson. Steelheart was the first book that I ever read by Brandon Sanderson and was one of the first books that I reviewed on this blog. It is slightly crazy to think that the first time I read this book was over six years ago. But like any good book the story sticks with you and you cannot wait for that moment when you forget and can have the pleasure of reading again. This is one book that I have asked, begged friends and family to read because it is so good. Luckily a few of them have listened. And perhaps more importantly they agree with me! Throughout we follow David as he seeks to become a Reckoner and bring the downfall of Steelheart. A Epic who killed his father and whose weakness David only seems to know.  I’d also forgotten how hilariously awful David’s metaphors are. So bad that they have […]

Blog Tour / Review: Skyward by Brandon Sanderson

I received this book for free from Netgalley, Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Skyward by Brandon Sanderson Series: Skyward #1 Published by Gollancz on November 6, 2018 Genres: Fantasy, Fiction, Young Adult Pages: 528 Format: E-Arc, Hardback Source: Netgalley, Publisher Buy on Amazon Goodreads Defeated, crushed, and driven almost to extinction, the remnants of the human race are trapped on a planet that is constantly attacked by mysterious alien starfighters. Spensa, a teenage girl living among them, longs to be a pilot. When she discovers the wreckage of an ancient ship, she realizes this dream might be possible—assuming she can repair the ship, navigate flight school, and (perhaps most importantly) persuade the strange machine to help her. Because this ship, uniquely, appears to have a soul. Damn, you know that a book is awesome when you read it in one sitting and stay up until stupid o’clock to finish. Skyward was a blast and one that I adored.  If your after a heart thumping, […]

Review: Calamity by Brandon Sanderson

I received this book for free from Netgalley, Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Calamity by Brandon Sanderson Series: Reckoners #3 Published by Gollancz on February 18, 2016 Genres: Fantasy, Fiction, Science Fiction, Young Adult Pages: 432 Format: E-Arc, Hardback Source: Netgalley, Publisher Buy on Amazon Goodreads From the bestselling author of the Mistborn series and Words of Radiance comes Calamity, the final book in the New York Times bestselling Reckoners series. Embrace your epic destiny and there’s no turning back. Is there? After that cliffhanger of Firefight, and having a year to wait for Calamity, it was a bit of a struggle. But we made it through and now have the joy of reading another fabulous book. Because like the rest of Brandon Sanderson’s books I have read this is fabulous. It’s the type of book that is easy to imagine, one with a cinematic style and grace. But I have to admit that this is a book that I am struggling to review, mainly because I’m […]

Random Thoughts: My Anticipated Reads of 2016

So I think it times to state some of my anticipated reads of 2016! These are some of the books that I cannot wait to get my hands on and read. There are others out there that I want to read as well. Although if I’m being honest most of them seem to be sequels. I’ve put them in date order here and NOT in order of preference.   This is the final book in the Red Rising Trilogy and I am so excited for this read. I feel like we have waited far too long for this book. I adored Red Rising and Golden Son so I have high hopes for this book. If you haven’t yet read this series then I highly recommend it to you, this is a series that won’t leave you disappointed. v       I first heard about this book at the Cheltenham Literature Festival where I was privileged enough to attend the Bloomsbury Book Party, and an extract of this book was read out by Meg Rosoff herself. The extract was hilarious and […]
