Pastime Pleasures #34 Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson

Welcome to my feature, Pastime Pleasures all about books I have loved and adored and were published over five years.  Today is the turn of  Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson. Steelheart was the first book that I ever read by Brandon Sanderson and was one of the first books that I reviewed on this blog. It is slightly crazy to think that the first time I read this book was over six years ago. But like any good book the story sticks with you and you cannot wait for that moment when you forget and can have the pleasure of reading again. This is one book that I have asked, begged friends and family to read because it is so good. Luckily a few of them have listened. And perhaps more importantly they agree with me! Throughout we follow David as he seeks to become a Reckoner and bring the downfall of Steelheart. A Epic who killed his father and whose weakness David only seems to know.  I’d also forgotten how hilariously awful David’s metaphors are. So bad that they have […]

Pastime Pleasures #33 – Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J K Rowling

Welcome to my feature, Pastime Pleasures all about books I have loved and adored and were published over five years.  Today is the turn of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J K Rowling. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire has to be my favourite Harry Potter out of the whole series. It is the pivotal point in the Harry Potters and a complete game changer. Goblet of Fire is the starting point for Harry and co to grow up. Before Harry’s adventures were limited to in-school activities. And Voldermort is still a shadow of himself. And it is now all going to change. Because now that he is back. There is a lot of Quidditch, adventure and thrills. As Harry races to the end of the Triwizard cup and starts to realise that he is a teenager. The fact that Harry and co are growing up lead to some hilarious moments as hormones take the better of them. And we get to learn about other schools. I loved that we finally get to know so much more about […]

Monthly Round-up! November 2016

Monthly Round-up, linking everything that has happened in the last month, posted on the last day of said month. This Round-up November 2016. Currently reading:   Reviews:   Through the Letterbox:   Challenges: A new year and a new challenge. This year I am participating in the movie musical challenge hosted by Bookish Whimsy.  This month I reviewed  an incredible 4 musicals – including the divine Meet Me In St. Louis, the charismatic Easter Parade, the moving Oklahoma! and finally Kiss Me Kate. As per usual I’m participating in the Goodreads Challenge. I’ve pledged to read 100 books! And so far have managed to read 75 books. I’m 6 behind which is terrible and I’m not sure how I will recover. But this is a small improvement on last month so keep your fingers crossed for me that I can keep going! So what do you think of my round-up November 2016? What have you read this month? Pastime Pleasures #32 – Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J K Rowling

Welcome to my feature, Pastime Pleasures all about books I have loved and adored and were published over five years.  Today is the turn of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J K Rowling. When I first read this book I wasn’t a huge fan. Harry Potter was so much better than this! But over the years as my love for all things Harry Potter have grown so have my feeling for this little book. Because after this book the Harry Potter books double in size.  Also can I mention Crookshanks?! He is like a secret ninja secret spy agent cat. He knows what is happening and doesn’t get the credit he deserves. While Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was never my favourite in terms of magic and adventure. It is still a great book and essential to the series. Basically our wizarding world is expanded. We get to know about an all magical wizard village, sweets with really cool names and a big history lesson. And then there is the time-turner. It would literally give me all the time in the world to go […]
