Random Thoughts: 6 Ways to Enjoy Reading at Home

Over the past few months, due to Cornavirus we are spending a lot more time at home and indoors. And less time browsing the bookshelves at our favourite bookshop or local library. So with 6 ways to enjoy reading at home you will probably never want to leave. And perhaps with all this staying at home, there is a sense of loneliness and sadness as events that have been planned for a long time and have been super excited for are cancelled. Below I’ve listed six ways that, even at home you can celebrate your love of reading and maybe enjoy reading at home. 1. Connect with other book bloggers from the comfort of your favourite chair. Want to connect with other book lovers and not sure how? There are so many ways that you can chat and find a book enthusiast. One of my favourite ways is the#UKYAChat created by Lucy Powrie. This is normally every Friday and is hosted on Twitter. Lucy normally has a theme for each chat and asks questions and plays games throughout the evening. […]

Pastime Pleasures #35 – Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin

Welcome to my feature, Pastime Pleasures all about books I have loved and adored and were published over five years.  Today is the turn of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin.   I think that Pride and Prejudice was the first classic book that I ever fell in love with. Perhaps it was the iconic first line that really did it for me:-“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.” There was something that was so whimsical in that sentence that it was very hard not to keep reading. And, let’s be honest it is a classic for a reason. Everyone, without really realising it knows the plot. There are hundreds of adaptions, parodies and satires based on it plot, that you will end up seeing something related without even meaning to. Yet the actual story of Pride and Prejudice is hard to describe and hard to justify as a book that should be read before you die. Luckily I ticked this off my bucket […]
