Random Thoughts: 5 Books Featuring Dyslexia

So before I start listing my top 5 Books featuring Dyslexia, I have a serious question for you. Have you ever read a book with a dyslexic protagonist? Have you noticed the same theme that runs through them? The answer is simple, they are all very bright but they can’t read and on occasion write. The majority are also embarrassed and try to hide their disability. So My Top Five Books are: 1. Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan   This was (and still is) one of my favourite books as a kid. In ancient Greece, mythology was used to explain the unexplainable, it is an analogy, so it is fitting that dyslexia is put in that category. It’s also pretty cool that the reason why Percy can’t read English is because his brain is hardwired for ancient Greek and he is a demi- god. This explained so much to me. But I’m still waiting to go to Camp Half Blood…   2. May B by Caroline Starr Rose   So this is actually a really sad book for me. May is […]

Random Thoughts: Looking back at 2017 Blogging Resolutions

Last year I set myself five little goals, five resolutions to help me read and blog better and now is the time to look back at 2017 Blogging Resolutions. I’m not sure I really achieved any of my goals, but I know that I pushed myself to try, and if I failed them in 2017, I can always try again next year… So my goals in 2017 were: to actually complete a challenge i set myself Last year I set the task of completing a bookish challenge. I failed. This year I just want to complete one challenge. I still failed. Challenges are really hard, but despite not completing any challenges I have learnt so much from the challenges, and read books and watched musicals I probably would not have otherwise done. reduce the amount of arc’s / netgalley books i have to read So I feel like I can say that I have done this. I have been ruthless and got rid of books that I do want to read but have been in the pile since 2014. Clearly I […]

Random Thoughts: My Bookish Resolutions for 2018

Every year I set my resolutions, my bookish resolutions for 2018 are no different. Normally achieving these resolutions are a challenge. However, I do like having a list it gives me some sense of purpose. And if I ever get time it will allow to do something more with my blog.  And that is  the whole point of resolutions, they make you feel good! Last year I set myself five little resolutions. Some of them I achieved. Others I failed miserably. This year I hope to achieve all my goals, but we will find out at the end of the year. So my goals this year are: To actually complete a challenge I set myself Last year I set the task of completing a musical challenge and my Goodreads challenge. I failed. Completely on the musical challenge and I had to reduce the Goodreads one. This year I want to complete one challenge without resorting to cheating!! Reduce the amount of arc’s / netgalley books I have to read I feel like this is an on-going aim. But a good one nevertheless. […]

Diary of a #Cheltlitfest Volunteer Days 1-2

Welcome to my little page on the internet where I am diaries my time at the brilliant Cheltenham Literature Festival. I am going to give you a brief update each time of the ins and outs of being a festival volunteer. So without further ado, welcome to my Diary of a #Cheltlitfest Volunteer Days 1-2! Friday 6th October So I had a gentle start to the day by not starting until 3.45pm. Meaning that after all the heavy lifting I could have a bit of a lie in.  And we got to wonder around and enjoy the site. I also went  to see Andrew Marr, who was talking about painting and how his painting style has change since his stroke. And a new way to look at art. I have to be honest his art wasn’t really my cup of tea, but others may disagree   After that I was on duty welcoming people into the Forum. First up was Miranda Hart with her new  book ‘The Girl With The Lost Smile’  who was really funny and lovely.  However I have to […]
