Conquest is a highly enjoyable adventure story. It soon becomes apparent that there is so much more going on than the Illyri conquest and the clashes with the Human resistance. Something sinister is lurking in the background, something that needs to be stopped.
There are so many secrets hinting in this book, so much promise that there is more to be revealed. Who are the Sisterhood and why have they become so powerful? Can this war that is raging ever end peacefully?
There is so much potential to this series that I am eagerly waiting for the next book where, hopefully, more of the facts will be revealed and at least some of the questions are answered.
Conquest starts simply, all Syl wants is to celebrate her birthday but then a bomb explodes and Syl’s life changes. Each chapter is told from the perspective of different characters and over time their story lines weave together.
Conquest is not about “us” versus “them”, there is no black and white. It is about accepting others for what they are no matter what, for banding together,. It is about betrayal and lies, struggles and intrigue, but mostly mystery and secrets about to be uncovered.
